YOU CAN DO IT
BUILD A BIRD FEEDER
|
| |
SUPPLIES
YOU NEED
* Pie pan or bowl for your serving dish.
* One piece of wood 3 feet long or longer. One end should be
flat for attaching the bird feeder. This piece of wood will
go in the ground vertically to become the stand.
* A screw or a nail. Depending on which, you'll also need a
hammer or screwdriver.
* Birdseed (you might need to go to the store to get this).
With these supplies and the help of an adult, you can have fun
building the bird feeder below. |

 |
(1) Select
an area in your yard appropriate for this project. Make sure
to put your bird feeder where you can watch the birds eat. Also,
be sure to select an area that is not frequented by cats.
(2) Put a nail or screw through the center of the pie pan, attaching
the pan to the flat end of the support post.
(3) Dig a hole about 6 inches deep and big enough that the vertical
piece of wood can fit in it. Place the stand in the hole, and
fill the hole back in. Make sure the post is sturdy in the ground.
(4) Add some birdseed to the pie pan. |
| |
Once you've completed your bird feeder, see how many different
kinds of birds visit it. Try keeping a log of how many birds
come visit and what kind of birds come the most often. If
you need help identifying a bird, ask an adult or go to the
library, get a book on birds, and look it up.
I hope you have a good time with your bird feeder. Please
e-mail the Professor
and let me know what happened.
Your friend,
Professor Alexander
