Once you've completed your compass, place it on a table and
wait for the needle to come to rest. The thickest end of the
needle will be pointing north. Now try moving the compass
to a new place on the table. The needle will resettle and
point north again. Try making both of the compasses above
to see which one works best. I find that the needles will
lose their magnetism after a while, so you might want to remagnetize
them now and then. I hope you have lots of fun. Please e-mail
